Summary:

  • Joost studied physics at the Delft University of Technology (graduated ‘cum laude’ in 1971), and attended the Top Executive Course of IMD, Lausanne (1990)
  • His business career was focused on manufacturing technology, logistics, and ICT systems. He was member of the executive board (Group Vice President) of an European production company in the field of paper and packaging (6 billion $ multinational; 1990-1996)
  • In 1996 he decided “to start something new”, and founded his own strategy consulting company Aiming Better, Amsterdam
  • In 2001, he finished his PhD thesis on the strategic subject of the delinking of economy and ecology: the model of the Eco-costs / Value Ratio
  • In 2006 Joost became Associate Professor at the Delft University of Technology, design for Sustainability, and joined later Materials Science and Engineering; formally he retired in 2013, but he is still active at the University as co-promotor and lecturer
  • He has written 6 books in the field of quantitative assessment of sustainability, sustainable business strategies and eco-efficient value creation, and has an h-index of 23 in Google Scholar
  • In 2011 he became also associate of Sustainable Endeavour, a strategic consultancy boutique in the field of sustainable product and services
  • In 2022 Joost became board member of the Sustainability Impact Metrics foundation
  • Joost has developed two apps for IOS and Android:
    – Idemat for sustainable materials selection
    – IdematLightLCA for simple LCA calculation

He is knight of the Orde van Oranje Nassau.
