Note 1. The upcycling data for plastics are based of pyrolysis with hydrotreatment cleaning, plus the CO2 emissions for plastics that contain oxygen. Only for PET, the upcycling data is based on glycolysis. The energy to produce fossil oil is less than the energy to produce pyrolysis oil.
For bio-based plastics, the upcycling energy of pyrolysis oil similar to the energy needed for the oil from agricultural waste for bio-based production.
Note 2. The actual situation for virgin and recycled paper is different rom the situation for metals and plastics. There is an oversupply of waste paper in Europe since Chine stopped importing it. It is exported to other countries like India and Turkey, but what happens with it is not exactly known.
Currently, paper production is 55% based on waste paper, and 45% is based on pulpwood . In the app, the export is not taken into account in end-of-life scenario B: 55% is recycled, and 45% is burned in a municipal waste incineration.
